MS001 29 Mar 2008 Mike Smith from New Zealand has asked us to alert members to the fact that the Montserrat Museum is keen to build up its early historical records, and in this respect members who possess or have access to documents or letters that containing interesting information about conditions on the island in the 18th and early 19th century, ie trade, plantations, slavery etc are invited to supply Photostats. CF007 31 Dec 2007 I am looking for a picture of the following item from the DLR records: 1916 new key plate die mounted on card and endorsed ‘Nov 1st 120 leads/No.2’.
This die shows the ‘leaves’ type design used for the GV issues of Br Honduras, Grenada and the 2d and 2/6 of St Lucia (also Br Solomon Is and Malta).
It was referred to in lot 176 in the RL catalogue of 13 April 1986, a Br Honduras lot.

JD001 23 May 2006 Walter Hess Covers to Argentina, British Guiana, Chile, Colombia, Guatemala, Peru, Venezuela and Brazil.

Dr Walter Hess was the Colonial Surgeon to the British Government in the Bahamas during the First World War, and an avid stamp collector.

He serviced many philatelically inspired covers, especially in 1930, and plastered with War Tax and Red Cross stamps, to commemorate the First Flights from Nassau to Miami, and then on to various destinations in the Caribbean, Central and South America, and Canada. Such covers were addressed to Dr Hess himself, c/o the postmasters at these destinations, all of which were returned to him “not known” or with other similar wording.

There are 32 known destinations, including Miami itself, and all covers have the postmark 2nd January 1930, with the exception of Uruguay (9th January 1930) Venezuela (30th April 1930) and Brazil (16th November 1930).

I have covers to 24 destinations but to complete the collection I need those to Argentina, British Guiana, Chile, Colombia, Guatemala, Peru, Venezuela and Brazil. These are proving elusive. If any members have any such covers they would like to dispose of, please let me know.
